Trauma-Specific Care

People often ask why I work with people affected by trauma. Why? Because I am passionate about the lifelong impacts of undiagnosed and untreated trauma on a person’s life. I am also passionate about the resilience of people and their ability to heal when proper care is provided and barriers are removed. Trauma is treatable, and no one need be “stuck” with its long-term aftereffects. We can heal from trauma, and it would be a privilege to work with you on your healing journey.

Like many therapists, I use a variety of therapies to help clients reach their goals. I am also trained in two trauma-specific ones: Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), developed by Dr. Janina Fisher, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, developed by Dr. Pat Ogden.

Finally, building safety, trust, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do in our work together. And you are always in the lead.

My Credentials

Types of Visits Offered

I prefer in-person sessions with clients especially when we are first beginning our work. I do also offer virtual visits within the state of Oregon. I like to discuss virtual visits on an individual basis based on your needs. I do not offer phone visits.

I do not see children, teens, couples, or families. I do not have the training and expertise to provide therapy to these clients.

Availability

I offer appointments on Tuesdays through Fridays. These appointments are afternoon and early evening to accommodate most work schedules.

Office Location

My office is conveniently located in Hillsboro, near Intel, Nike, and Beaverton. It is 5 miles South of Highway 26 and 2 blocks from the Tri-Met line. Parking is free and plentiful.

Although I lease office space from All Saints Episcopal Parish, it is purely a business arrangement and is not a program of the church. I made the decision to have my practice in a church building after much careful thought. If the church has ever been a place of discomfort or even threat for you, know that I have taken many steps to ensure a sense of safety when you visit my office. I am very happy to provide you with more information by email or by phone.

Financial Arrangements and Insurance Steps

I am currently credentialed with Aetna, Moda, Regence BCBS, Pacific Source, Trillium, and Providence Health Plan insurances. I do not have a sliding scale at this time.

If you have a plan with one of these insurers, please call the customer service, mental health, or behavioral health number on the back of your card. Ask “Is Babette Reeves with Deep Within Therapy in my network?” (Insurers websites are not kept up-to-date. There are also many “slices” of plans within a plan, and you need to verify that I an in-network in your particular “slice.”) If the answer is “yes,” email me (deepwithintherapy@gmail.com) and let me know you have called and confirmed your insurance. (Please do not provide me with any insurance information at this time.)

If the answer is “no” to in-network coverage, ask “Does my plan have out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy?” If “yes” to out-of-network coverage, let’s talk further. If the answer is “no” to both questions, then I’m still happy to talk with you, but I would be seeing you as a client without insurance coverage, and my full fee would apply.

Sometimes clients choose to not file with any health insurance plans or panels. Here are some of the reasons why this might be helpful:

If you subscribe to a health maintenance organization (HMO), preferred provider organization (PPO), or have another kind of health insurance with a managed care organization (MCO), decisions about what kind of care you need, from whom, and how much of it you can receive will be reviewed by the plan. The Plan has rules, limits, and procedures that can affect your treatment. Your MCO can ask for and review all my records as part of its regular audits of provider services. It will usually be looking to see that the services are compatible with the severity of your limitation and diagnoses. This is called “evaluating the medical necessity of treatment.” Your insurance company can limit treatment and deny claims based on their reviews, thereby becoming a decision maker in your care. Your therapy also becomes part of your larger healthcare record.

On the other hand, by not using your insurance, the decision to engage in therapy is entirely yours. A diagnosis is no longer a necessity. Treatment decisions will be entirely between us, and no one else will know any details about your sessions and time in therapy. Any records, which I legally must create, will never need to be release to a health insurer.

My fee is $210 for a 50-minute session. As you consider and compare the costs, remember to factor in the costs of your deductible and coinsurance to the costs of therapy with and without insurance.

After you have verified insurance and made your financial decision, we will arrange a 20 minute (no charge) virtual meeting so that you can ask me questions and so we can both evaluate if we might be a “good fit.” We can further discuss costs, insurance, and billing at that time. Simply give me a call if you have other financial questions before that point.

Masking and Other Safety Matters

Masks are generally optional. I do require them if you have had a known exposure to any illness within the past seven days or if you are recovering from an illness. If you are actively ill or not feeling well, please call to reschedule. It is difficult to do good work when feeling badly, and we need to care for ourselves when we are not well. Finally, no guns or any means of doing physical harm are ever allowed in the therapy office. If you carry such, please leave them locked in your vehicle. Bringing them into the office is grounds for immediate dismissal from my practice.

Statement of Personal and Practice Values

I do not discriminate against clients because of any of these factors: age, gender, sexual orientation, marital or family status, race, color, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, place of residence, veteran status, physical disability, health status, or criminal record unrelated to present dangerousness. This is a personal commitment, as well as being required by some federal, state, and local laws and regulations. I will endeavor to continue to learn about my implicit biases and my privilege. I will continue to take steps to advance and support the values of equal opportunity, human dignity, and racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity.
